Friday the 13th (2009) – The Reboot

<<Back to Intro and all Friday the 13th Films

The reboot takes us back to the beginning with a new take on Camp Crystal Lake. The camp is once again abandoned and overgrown, creating a sense of decay and forgotten terror. The film also explores the nearby lakefront property and underground tunnels Jason uses to stalk his prey, adding a claustrophobic layer to the setting.

The doomed characters are updated for a new generation, including a group of friends on a camping trip and a brother searching for his missing sister. The film leans into the archetypal roles of the jock, the nerd, the good girl, and the partier, with each character meeting their fate in increasingly gruesome ways as they encounter Jason in his various hiding spots.

In this reimagining, Jason is portrayed as a survivalist hunter, swift and cunning. He initially dons a burlap sack, paying homage to Part II, before acquiring his iconic hockey mask once more. Jason’s agility and intelligence are on full display as he sets traps and stalks his victims with precision. The most creative kill involves Jason impaling a character with a bow and arrow from an astonishing distance. Jason meets his end when he is pushed into a wood chipper and then submerged in the lake — but, as always, a final shot suggests his story is far from over.

"His tale's been re-told, the knife still gleams bright; who knows when Jason might strike next on a Friday night?"

Finish up with the conclusion "The Future of Jason and Friday the 13th.">>
