A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master (1988)
Freddy is resurrected (by flaming dog urine none the less)
and begins targeting the remaining survivors from the previous film before
moving on to a new set of teenagers. Once the original group of Elm Street kids
are gone, what’s Freddy to do?
Alice Johnson (Lisa Wilcox, who becomes the series new
heroine), is a shy girl with a vivid imagination, and inadvertently gains the
dream powers of her friends as they die. As her friends fall, Alice grows
stronger and more determined to stop Freddy.
Freddy fully embraces his humorous, twisted personality,
taunting his victims with elaborate puns and over-the-top kills. The special
effects in this entry are next level, and you’ll be amazed (and probably
disgusted) and what Freddy can do to taunt and kill his victims. You won’t look
a pizza the same way again… ever!
Freddy manipulates time loops, surreal dreamscapes, and exaggerated environments like an endless beach. He uses each dreamer's fears to tailor his kills, from insect transformations to drowning. By the end, Alice uses her newfound powers and the “Dream Master” rhyme to weaken Freddy. She forces him to confront his own reflection, which destroys him—temporarily of course.
"One, two, he’s coming for you…
Three, four, through Jacob’s door.
Five, six, with twisted tricks…
Seven, eight, motherhood’s weight."
