Freddy vs. Jason (2003)

<<Back to Intro and all Friday the 13th Films

The film's setting is a crossover between the worlds of "Friday the 13th" and "A Nightmare on Elm Street." The action takes place primarily in Springwood, Ohio, home of Freddy Krueger, but also includes scenes at Crystal Lake. The contrasting settings — the dream-like, nightmarish realm of Freddy and the familiar, dark woods of Crystal Lake — add to the suspense as the two iconic killers face off.

A new group of teenagers from Springwood becomes the target of Freddy Krueger’s renewed attack. However, since Freddy lacks power due to being forgotten, he manipulates Jason into spreading fear and death on Elm Street, thereby resurrecting Freddy’s strength. The teenagers, including Lori and Will, become caught in the battle between the two killers, fighting to survive both in the waking world and the dream realm.

Jason retains his classic hulking form with the worn hockey mask and tattered clothing. In one of the most creative sequences, Freddy manipulates Jason’s subconscious, taking him to a nightmare version of Crystal Lake. The final battle sees Jason and Freddy engage in a brutal fight, using everything from machetes to claws to construction equipment. Jason seemingly emerges victorious after decapitating Freddy, but Freddy’s wink at the audience hints that neither may be truly defeated.

"The clash of the titans might bring one a defeat, but the 'Friday the 13th' reboot is far from complete!"
