Friday the 13th: A New Beginning (1985)

The fifth film shifts from the familiar camp setting to a halfway house for troubled teens, set near Crystal Lake. The rural farmhouse, surrounded by thick woods, provides an eerie, secluded backdrop for the terror that unfolds. The halfway house represents a different kind of isolation, with its inhabitants already dealing with their own inner demons.

The characters include a mix of troubled teens with different backgrounds, personalities, and issues, such as Tommy Jarvis, now a psychologically scarred young man haunted by his past encounter with Jason. The staff members and other residents are equally diverse, though most are either unaware or skeptical of the danger that lurks around them.

In this installment, Jason appears as a copycat killer wearing a similar hockey mask, but with blue markings instead of red. The kills are varied and gruesome, with the most memorable being a garden shears throat-slit. The imposter is revealed to be Roy Burns, a paramedic seeking revenge for his son's death. He is ultimately killed when he falls onto a bed of spikes, bringing his spree to an end.

"The end seemed certain, but death's just a trick — because ‘Jason Lives’ in Part VI is coming up quick!"
