Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981)

<<Back to Intro and all Friday the 13th Films

Picking up five years after the events of the first film, the sequel is again set around the eerie and abandoned Camp Crystal Lake, now deemed “Camp Blood” by locals. The familiar setting is shrouded in fog, and an atmosphere of foreboding is enhanced by the sound of crickets and howling winds. However, this time, the focus shifts slightly to a nearby camp across the lake where a new group of camp counselors has gathered for training.

A new group of camp counselors — led by the determined Ginny — comes to the camp, each with unique personalities ranging from pranksters to earnest caretakers. They are equally unprepared for the terror that awaits them. Despite their individual quirks, they are largely unaware of the lurking danger, making them easy targets for the newly resurrected Jason Voorhees.

This is the first film to feature Jason as the killer. He appears as a backwoods, sack-headed menace, wearing a burlap sack over his head with one eye hole cut out and dressed in ragged clothes. He is portrayed as a brutish, somewhat clumsy figure but undeniably menacing. The most creative kill involves a double impalement of a couple with a spear while they are in bed. Jason meets his end — for now — when Ginny, wielding a machete, drives it into his shoulder, but his fate is left ambiguous as he seems to survive.

"Jason’s got his burlap sack and sharpened blade anew, but just wait ‘til next time — he’s coming for you in ‘Part III’!... and in less than convincing 3D"
