Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood (1988)

<<Back to Intro and all Friday the 13th Films

The seventh entry takes place once again at Crystal Lake, but this time at a more secluded and mist-covered area, with lakeside cabins inhabited by a group of teenagers throwing a surprise birthday party. The misty lake and the crumbling piers add an additional layer of dread to the familiar setting.

The characters include another group of unsuspecting teens, each with their own quirks and personalities, as well as Tina, a young woman with telekinetic powers who is trying to overcome her trauma. Tina’s psychic abilities make her a unique final girl, creating an interesting dynamic as she battles both her inner demons and the revived Jason.

Jason appears in his most monstrous form yet, with a decayed, skeletal face, exposed bones, and his clothes in tatters, clearly showing the damage from his previous encounters. The hockey mask is partially destroyed, revealing his grotesque visage underneath. The most creative kill is when Jason uses a weed-whacker on a teenage boy, a brutal and unexpected attack that highlights his increasing savagery. In the climactic battle, Tina uses her telekinetic powers to hurl objects at Jason, eventually summoning her father's spirit from the lake to drag Jason back into the watery depths, seemingly ending his rampage for good.

"He's been drowned, stabbed, and battered, but don’t take a nap — because ‘Jason Takes Manhattan’ is next on the map!"
