Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (1993)

<<Back to Intro and all Friday the 13th Films

The ninth installment returns to Crystal Lake but with a supernatural twist. The opening sequence begins at the lake, but the setting soon shifts to various locations around town, including a police station, a diner, and the Voorhees house. The small-town vibe contrasts with the increasing presence of supernatural elements and body-swapping horror.

The film features a diverse cast of new victims, including FBI agents, local residents, and a bounty hunter named Creighton Duke, who knows Jason's dark secret. Jessica, the protagonist, is revealed to be Jason's niece and is forced to confront her family's sinister legacy while protecting her infant son from becoming Jason’s next vessel.

Jason appears briefly in his traditional form at the start of the film before his body is destroyed by an FBI ambush. However, his evil spirit survives, jumping from body to body in a gruesome possession plotline. The most creative kill involves a coroner eating Jason’s heart and becoming possessed, which is both grotesque and surreal. Jason is ultimately dragged to Hell by a demonic hand (Fredy Kruger's glove in fact) after being stabbed with a mystical dagger, his mask left behind in the dirt, hinting at further evil to come.

"Dragged to the underworld? It sounds like the end... but ‘Jason X’ is ready to spacewalk again, my friend!"
